Patient Stories
Patient of Dr. Paul D. Kim
I am an active seventy-one-year young gal whose passions are gardening, walking, and cooking.
When I was in my early to mid-sixties I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and a small synovial cyst at the L4-L5 level of my lower back. I realized it was time to consult a specialist to maintain my back wellness with this age-related condition.
My primary care physician recommended Dr. Paul D. Kim at the Spine Institute. I felt so comfortable after my initial visit! Dr. Kim was a good listener, compassionate and thorough. He suggested physical therapy to address the mild symptoms I was experiencing. With their approach and my continued devotion to the exercises I continued to live my usual quality of life for several years.
About eight months ago things began to change. In a short time, I was unable to do my long-distance walking and standing in place became very painful. My quality of life was miserable. Dr. Kim ordered a new MRI, discovered the source causing all these issues and we discussed my options. Together we decided surgery was the answer. He was so patient explaining the procedure as I constantly interrupted with questions and concerns. Both my husband and I felt totally comfortable and confident going into the procedure and trusted Dr. Kim’s ability.
I have been nerve pain free since the day of the surgery and just now finishing up physical therapy. Though recovery has taken time I am thrilled with the results. I am walking long distances again, gardening to my heart’s content and can stand long periods of time in the kitchen!
Back wellness is a journey and the Spine Institute of San Diego was the right path for me!
